How to Use Wyze Cam with Alexa – Live Stream Video and More!

YouTube video

In an exciting update, Wyze Cam V2 and Wyze Cam Pan now officially work with Alexa! This means you can now watch live stream video from your Wyze cameras on any Alexa device that has a screen, including Echo Show, Echo Spot, Fire Tablets, and Fire TV. However, do note that the original Wyze Cam does not work with Alexa due to hardware limitations, but that was one of the key reasons why the V2 and Pan were developed.

If you’re unsure whether you have an original Wyze Cam or the V2, simply check the sticker on the bottom of the camera. The V2 will indicate “V2” on the sticker. To connect your Wyze Cam to your Amazon device, follow these step-by-step instructions:

Step 1: Set Up Your Cameras in the Wyze App

Before connecting your Wyze Cam to Alexa, ensure that you have one or more cameras set up in your Wyze account using the Wyze app. If you’re already familiar with setting up and using Wyze Cam with your phone, you’re good to go. Alexa works with all Wyze Cam V2 and Wyze Cam Pan cameras that are connected to your Wyze account, including cameras shared by other users.

Log in to your Wyze account and verify that your cameras are turned on and have a stable connection. Additionally, review and simplify your camera names to make it easier for Alexa. Ensure that the camera names are simple, easy to pronounce, and unique. Tap on the name of any camera to change it and hit OK.

Step 2: Update Firmware

To ensure compatibility with Alexa, it is essential to update the firmware on each of your Wyze Cams. Open the Wyze app and tap into the live stream of each camera. The app should automatically prompt you to update the firmware. However, if you accidentally cancel the update, follow these steps:

  • Tap the settings gear icon.
  • Select “Device Info”.
  • Check for firmware updates and perform the upgrade if available.

Step 3: Enable the Wyze Skill on Alexa

To connect your Wyze Cams to Alexa, you need to enable the Wyze Skill. There are multiple ways to do this, but we’ll guide you through the Alexa app:

  1. Launch the Alexa app on your device.
  2. Open the menu and select “Skills & Games”.
  3. Search for the Wyze Skill and choose it.
  4. Hit “Enable Skill” to authorize Alexa’s access to your cameras.
  5. Enter your Wyze username and password when prompted.
  6. Once authorized, select “Discover Devices” to allow Alexa to find your cameras.
  7. Alternatively, you can simply say, “Alexa, discover my devices” to initiate the process.

After completing these steps, your cameras will be set up with Alexa using the names you assigned them in the Wyze app. It’s advisable to keep the names the same in both the Wyze app and the Alexa app for consistency. However, if you prefer to call your camera by a different name when using voice commands, you can modify the camera name in the Alexa app. Tap the camera name, select “Edit Name”, and hit “Done”. This change will not affect the camera name in the Wyze app.

Interacting with Wyze Cam Using Voice Commands

Now that your Wyze Cam is connected to Alexa, you can start using voice commands to view your live streams. For example, if you want to see your backyard camera, simply say, “Alexa, show me the backyard.” And just like that, your backyard camera’s live stream will appear on your Alexa device’s screen.

You can use similar commands for other cameras as well. For instance, if you want to see your office camera, say, “Alexa, show me the office.” The response time may vary, as there might be a slight delay due to server routing. Please note that the live stream will remain visible for ten minutes before it stops automatically. If you need a longer streaming time, you’ll have to restart the live stream by repeating the voice command.

To exit the live stream, say, “Alexa, go home” or “Alexa, stop.” It’s important to note that Alexa devices do not support two-way audio, alert videos, or the pan-tilt functionalities of Wyze Cam. However, we are thrilled to announce that you can now conveniently view and listen to the live stream through Alexa.

We hope this integration between Wyze Cam and Alexa makes it even easier for you to keep an eye on the things that matter most to you. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Wyze Cam, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Happy streaming!
